Sangli Mission Society, established in 1990, carries out various programs and projects with the purpose of lasting improvements and sustainable development of the disadvantaged and marginalized sections of society in Maharashtra mainly in four districts; Sangli, Kolhapur, Sindhudurg and Ratnagiri.


Our Social & Development Action coordinates all the developmental and welfare activities of Sangli Mission Society like special education and vocational rehabilitation of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), Promotion of Child Rights, Community Based Rehabilitation (CBR), Community Development, Women Empowerment, Health Care, Counseling, Advocacy, Promotion of Micro Insurance, Environmental Protection, Promotion of Sustainable Agriculture and Livelihood Programs.

Our Objectives

  • Empower the disabled to live a full life with equal rights and opportunities.
  • Improve the life situation of the HIV/AIDS infected and affected people, stigma eradication and prevention of HIV/AIDS.
  • Enabling the people to be the primary decision makers and executers through decentralized governance.
  • Enabling women to come into the main stream of Society for its integral development, safeguarding their dignity and integrity.
  • Enabling the exploited and weaker sections of society for justice, dignity and integrity.
  • Integrated and sustainable development through organic farming and allied activities and preservation of healthy environment.

Milestones

  • May 01, 1990 : The constitution of Sangli Mission by the contract between the Bishop of Kalyan (Mar Paul Chittilappilly) and the DirectorGeneral of MST (Very. Rev. Fr Sebastian Thuruthel).


  • August 1, 1990 : The first plot of land purchased at Miraj for the new centre.


  • December 9, 1990 : Rev. Fr George Kavukatt, the first President of SMS arrived at Miraj, after winding up his assignment in Pune.


  • January 21, 1991 : Sangli Station started (but it was later closed).


  • January 25, 1991 : Chiplun Station Started


  • January 27, 1991 : Sisters of SMS Congregation (Palai Province) arrived at Miraj.


  • January 30, 1991 : Inauguration of Alphonsa Station at Miraj by Fr George Kavukatt (Regional Director), and SMS Convent (AlphonsaSadan) at Miraj by Fr Augustine Vadakarakala, the Directorof SMS Congregation.


  • February 11, 1991 : Alphonsa School Miraj opened.


  • February 20, 1991 : Ichalkaranji Station started.


  • March 12-14, 1991 : The first visit to the Sangli mission by the Director General MST (Very Rev. Fr Sebastian Thuruthel).


  • June 15, 1991 : Bhedshi Station started.


  • June 15, 1991 : Alphonsa School, Ichalkaranji started.


  • December 2-3, 1991 : The Provincial and Mission Superior of Sisters of Destitute (SD), Changanacherry province visited.


  • January 15, 1992 : Blessing of the foundation stone for the proposed priests quarters at Miraj, byHis Excellency, Mar John Perumattam.


  • January 31, 1992 : Visit of Rev. Fr. Cyriac Kottayarukil, the General of MCBS congregation.


  • March 23, 1992 : Land purchased at Ichalkaranji.


  • April 4-5, 1992 : The first official visit to the Sangli mission by the Local Ordinary, Mar Paul Chittilappilly. The Director General of the Societyalso was present at the occasion.


  • June 10, 1992 : The Sisters of the Destitute sent their first team of sisters to work in the Sangli Mission.


  • October 20, 1992 : Blessing of the priests residence at Ichalkaranji by Mar Paul Chittilappilly(Bishop of Kalyan).


  • January 29, 1993 : A plot of land purchased for the Chiplun Station.


  • March 20, 1993 : Sangli Mission became 'Sangli Mission Society', a Registered Society {M/3863/Sangli}, registered under Societies Registration Act 1860.


  • July 30, 1993 : Sangli mission Society became a Charitable and Educational Trust (F/3827), registered under Bombay Public Trust Act 1950.


  • August 05, 1995 : MSMI Convent (Tellicherry Province) at Chiplun opened by FrVarkey,the founder of MSMI congregation. The firstcommunity: Srs Mary Jacob, Christy John, LissyAnto and Tesseena Thomas.


  • December 24, 1995 : Official visit of Very Rev. Fr Sebastian Vadakel (Director General MST) to Sangli Mission.


  • May 25, 1996 : Blessing and inauguration of Adivare station by Fr Peter Kavumpuram (RD).


  • June 11, 1996 : Resuscitation of Sangli station by Fr Joy Purayidathil starting to stay at Vishrambag, Sangli, blessed by Fr PeterKavumpuram (RD).


  • June 22, 1997 : Blessing of FCC convent at Khed on 22nd June 1997.


  • July 03, 1997 : MSJ Convent at Shirgaon was blessed.


  • July 04, 1997 : Ashadeep Family Counselling Centre at Varanali Road, Vishrambag, Sangli was blessed and inaugurated by Rev. Fr Peter Kavumpuram.


  • July 1997 : FrSiby VPP started to stay at Udgiri, one of the most neglected, underdeveloped and remote villages, surrounded by forest inKolhapur district.


  • July 22, 1997 : Opening of station at Kodoli.


  • February 08, 1998 : Blessing Mary Matha Community hall chipluns.


  • February 08, 1998 : Blessing of the newly built house at Khed by Mar Thomas Elavanal.


  • February 12, 1998 : The shifting of the Regional House from Rajarampuri to Raman Mala, Kolhapur was in 1998. SantThomaBhavan was blessed and inaugurated as the new Regional House by Mar Thomas Elevanal (Kalyan), in the presence of Very Rev. Fr Sebastian Vadakel (Director General, MST), during the termof Fr. Peter Kavumpuram as the President of SMS.
  • March 28, 1998 : Blessing of the new house at Khutalwadi on 28th March 1998, by Rev. Fr Peter Kavumpuram.


  • February 16, 2005 : Major Archbishop Cardinal Varkey Vithayathil visited Sangli Mission.


  • June 24, 2005 : Foundation stone for the priests residence at Banda was laid by Rev. Fr John Kizhakkarakatt and the building was blessed by Very Rev. Fr. Kurian Ammanathukunnel (Director General, MST) on 17th December 2005.


  • December 18, 2005 : Foundation stone for Pratiksha Special School and hostel at Watul was laid by Fr Thomas Chirackal.


  • January 30, 2006 : Foundation stone for St. Thomas School building at Ratnagiri was laid by Fr Thomas Chirackal (President SMS).


  • January 30, 2006 : Foundation stone for Shanti Nivas Care Home for the severely disabled at Khutalwadi waslaid by Fr. Thomas Chirackal.


  • February 09, 2006 : Foundation stone for a convent and rehab centre for the disabled at Ratnagiri was laid by FrThomas Chirackal (Regional Director).


  • December 05, 2006 : New building for the rehabilitation centre for the Mentally Challenged children at Amberi was blessed by Very Rev. Fr. Kurian Ammanathukunnel, Director General MST.


  • December 08, 2006 : Newly constructed Mary Matha School building at Chiplun was blessed by Very Rev. Fr KurianAmmanathukunnel (Director General MST).


  • December 08, 2006 : St. Thomas School building in MST's own land at Ratnagiri was blessed by Very Rev. Fr KurianAmmanathukunnel (Director General MST).


  • November 22, 2007 : Sangli Mission Society got its FCRA registration (#083860036).


  • 2007 : Sangli Mission Society got its Income Tax Exception under 12-A.


  • July 17, 2004 : Sangli Mission Society got its PAN number w.e.f. 30th July 1993, and TAN number.


  • February 25, 2007 : The ground floor of the newly constructed Care Home for the Severely Disabled Children was blessed by Mar Sebastian Vadakel (Bishop of Ujjain) at Shanti NivasKhutalwadi.


  • July 25, 2008 : Sangli Mission Society got its 'Minority Status' approved by the Govt of Maharashtra.


  • December 04, 2008 : New office flat blessed by Bishop Paul Chittilappilly (former Bishop of Kalyan) when he visited Sangli Mission.


  • 2009 : Purchased new land at Oros in Sindhudurg.


  • April 01, 2012 : Sangli Mission Society got its Permanent Income Tax Exception under 80-G.


  • May 06, 2013 : Purchased 11 acres and 11 acres of land At Herle.


  • May 01, 2014 : Inauguration of the Silver Jubilee celebrations by His Excellency Mar Thomas Elavanal , Bishop of Kalyan at Alphonsa, Miraj.


  • February 07, 2015 : Blessing of the Jubilee memorial St Joseph's samaj Seva Kendra Kodoli by Major Archbishop Cardinal Mar George Alencherry.


  • February 06, 2015 : Visit of Major Archbishop Cardinal Mar George Alencherry.


  • February 08, 2015 : Blessing of the Foundation Stone for the Cancer palliative Care centre at Herle by Major Archbishop Cardinal Mar George Alencherry.


  • February 08, 2015 : Grand finale of Sangli Mission Society's Silver Jubilee Celebrations at IIchalkaranji.


  • July 13, 2015 : Blessing of the first floor of the Khed Convent by Very Rev. Fr JosephCheriampanatt, President SMS.


  • August 15, 2015 : Blessing of St. Alphonsa Convent at Herle by Very Rev. FrKurian Ammanathukunnel, Director General, MST.


  • October, 2015 : Purchased 5 acres of land in Islampur.


  • December 25, 2015 : Silver Jubilee Inauguration of Alphonsa School Ichalkaranji.


  • January 23, 2016 : Silver Jubilee Conclusion-Alphonsa School Miraj.
